A Family Winery
History
Casa Romana Vini emerged in the beginning of this century as a family company focused on the production of unique and distinct wines, in which the rigor in the production of our organic grapes and the work in our Winery have been contributing to a great recognition of our brands, and to the enhancement of the offer of wines from both the Lisboa and Tejo Regions.
The family is dedicated to the agricultural production of vineyards, orchards and forests, and this commitment to the production of quality wines, where the pleasure and well-being of those who drink them are a priority, has been shown to be immensely rewarding, and we hope it will be continued for many years in these terroirs that surround our two Quintas.
Nowadays, at Quinta do Porto Nogueira and Quinta da Escusa lands, our family led the planting of vineyards, favoring the terroirs formerly occupied by old vineyards, always aiming to produce organic grapes and make unique wines, under the brands Villa Nogueira, Página, Quinta Nogueira, Quinta da Escusa and Berbereta.

Family Estates
Quinta do Porto Nogueira is located in Alguber, Cadaval, about 70 km North from Lisbon. Founded in 1738, in the first half of the 18th century, it was always owned by the same family until the 20th century, when it was acquired by the current owners. The Quinta's activities are the Vineyard, the Orchard, the Forest, the production of Photovoltaic Energy, and the opening to Tourism with its most recent Wine & Charming Countryhouse.
Quinta da Escusa is located in the very particular location of Senhora da Escusa, municipality of Rio Maior, about 70 km Northeast of Lisbon, between the rural villages of Quintas and Vale Barco. Dating back to 1929, part of its land belonged to the grandparents and parents of the current owners who, for decades, practiced agriculture and viticulture there. The Quinta's activities are the Vineyard, the Orchard and the Forest.

Denomination and Symbol
Romana Vini
Quinta do Porto Nogueira's secular house is leaning against the Roman Bridge over the Arnóia little river, used to be the passage from the Roman road that connected Collippo (near Leiria) to Eburobrittium (Óbidos), which would finally led to Olisipo (Lisbon). The bridge witnessed the Roman presence in the region and inspired the denomination Romana Vini, a Family Winery.

Denomination and Symbol
4-Leaf Clover
The 4-leaf clover is the symbol of our winery and is the aggregating element of our brands. It is a rare herb, of good omen, whose symbology goes back to Celtic traditions. The 4 leaves in cross symbolize the sacred, the unity, the balance of nature in its perfect cycle: the 4 seasons, the 4 phases of the moon, the 4 cardinal points, the 4 elements of nature.
It is this balance, this perfect and harmonious cycle of nature that we seek to respect, integrate and reflect in each of our wines.

A Niche Player -
Truth and QualityAs a niche player, we work to be recognized for the rigor in making unique wines, respecting the specifics of each terroir, separately vinifying the grapes from each of vineyard and region. We work exclusively with our own organic grapes and that is why our wines reflect the true expression of our terroirs. The entire process aims to create true, serious wines with their own identity. We cultivate for quality, not quantity.
We always choose the best grapes, performing several different tasks: pruning adapted to the profile of our wines, pre-harvest weeding, picking bunches during the harvest, and choosing berries at the entrance of the winery. This successive selection process ensures that only the best fruit is used in the creation of our wines.

Sustainability and Biodiversity
-
Sustainable Agriculture
We planted our vineyards in the best terroirs, those that have been occupied by the growing of vines for years. Timely intervention, rigor, responsibility and care in the winemaking practice are the greatest guarantee of the quality of our wines.
Our vineyards are cultivated with reduced soil mobilization, and in Organic mode. Soil enrichment is done with natural manure. We carry out environmentally sustainable practices, and the company is certified by Integrated Production Standards.
In 2019 we began the implementation of a 3-year plan for the certification of our vineyards in Biologic Mode.

Biodiversity
We place great value on the local and global environment, enhancing biodiversity. All the energy consumed in our winery and in tourism is produced at Quinta do Porto Nogueira, from the production of photovoltaic energy, which ensures our energy self-sufficiency.
We are a winery that positively compensates, in net terms, all the CO2 impacts generatedn. To this end, we maintain a permanent afforestation and reforestation program on the grounds surrounding the winery and vineyards, certified by FSC - Forest Stewardship Council standards.
