Quinta da Escusa extends over a long valley, which connects the rural villages of Quintas and Vale de Barco, where the ancestors of the current owners were born. They carried out the viticulture and agriculture on some of the Quinta's current lands and, since 1929, they produced their own wine in a cellar located in the place. For centuries the main crop was the vineyard, now restored and planted in its original terroirs.

The Vineyards
Our vineyards produce in sandy, fertile land, marked by the influence of the Serra de Aire e Candeeiros (“Aire and Candeeiros Mountain”) and the Serra de Montejunto (“Montejunto Mountain”), south of the Tagus River, on the Ribatejo heath, marked by an especially hot climate in the summer, where the grapes ripen faster. In the approximately 10 hectares of vineyards at Quinta da Escusa - with DOC do Tejo classification - each parcel of vineyard is treated and valued as unique and different, and all our wines are produced with the pleasure and well-being of those who enjoy them in mind.
White Grapes planted: Arinto and Moscatel Alexandria
Red Grapes planted: Touriga Nacional, Alicante Bouschet, Tinta Miúda, Sousão, Castelão and Syrah

Choosing Every Grape
Process & The CellarWhen harvesting and afterwards in the cellar, we have adopted a rigorous Grape Selection process that we use to produce all our wines. It is an organized process of successive sorting that assures us of selecting only the best grapes. We always use grapes grown in our vineyards when producing our wines. Both our Mono-varietal and Reserva blends are 6 to 12 months aged in French or American oak barrels, from the well-known cooperages Séguin Moreau and JM Gonçalves.
Only the best-selected fruit is used in our wine making process.
